Changes to Prescribing Lengths from 1st February 2026

Feb 4, 2026

From 1st February 2026, there have been changes to the length of prescription your clinician can prescribe if it is clinically safe to do so.

Patients may be eligible for a 12-month prescription if:

  • Condition and medication dose have been stable for at least 6 months.
  • Regular monitoring is not needed, e.g. blood tests or blood-pressure checks.
  • Medicine is approved for 12-month prescribing.
  • The patient agrees to an annual in-person medication review without any other medical concerns arranged for that consultation.

The decision to extend your prescription length or not belongs with the prescribing clinician based on the above factors.
