At Wanaka Medical, we have a dedicated phlebotomist on site until 12 noon.
Phlebotomy is the practice of drawing blood for blood testing and all nurses are also trained in this practice.
Blood tests can help check the function of organs and show how well treatments are working. Specifically, blood tests can help doctors:
- Evaluate how well organs—such as the kidneys, liver, thyroid, and heart—are working.
- Diagnose diseases and follow the progress of conditions such as cancer, diabetes and anemia.
- Find out whether you have risk factors for heart disease.
- Check whether medicines you’re taking are working.
Once the blood has been taken, it is sent to Southern Community Laboratories in Queenstown for analysis. The results are then reviewed by your doctor and forwarded to you via Manage My Health, text or phone call depending on your preference. Most results are available within a couple of days.
